Greenhouse gasses. Carbon emissions. Climate change. If you go more than a few days without hearing or seeing any of those phrases, you probably don’t check the news very often. The environment has been a major topic of discussion for years now, and this will only increase over time. This is why so many people are looking to do their part to help Mother Nature, and one of the ways they’re doing it is by trading in gas-guzzlers for more eco-friendly vehicles. If you’re thinking about doing this, you have a couple of wise choices to consider: electric and hybrid models.
This one is pretty self-explanatory, but in case you don’t know, an electric car runs completely on electricity. That means you won’t find a tank to put gas in. Electric vehicles utilize a battery to run, and this means that they need to be plugged in to get charged. Widely considered better for the environment than cars that use gas, electric vehicles don’t produce any emissions. They are also very quiet, which helps cut down on noise pollution.
A hybrid vehicle runs on both gas and electricity. Under the hood you will find a gas engine that works alongside an electric motor. In some cases, a hybrid car will need to be plugged in to charge up the motor, but generally this isn’t necessary. Honda has several hybrid vehicles, and the nice thing is that some of our most popular models – including the Honda Accord and Honda Civic – offer alternative hybrid versions.
Once you have decided that you want a green car, you then need to figure out which type is best for you. Thinking about how much driving you do on a daily basis can help. If you’re constantly behind the wheel – perhaps driving to or from work or maybe toting the kids around – an electric vehicle could be ideal, as the amount of money you have to spend on gas will drop to $0. But if you don’t have to drive that far or for very long every day, a hybrid may be the better choice.
